  • Andree is a filmmaker and photographer whose work considers the space between formal precision and impressionistic spontaneity. His background in painting shapes an approach to the image that is at once formed by the moment and the shaping of it. He is currently working on a surreal feature documentary entitled, “Rare Animals,” and his first novel, “The Heart Attack.”

  • “Taken on some day when the light was not burning,”  @andreeljutica makes use of brooding light and shadow to create an image that invites viewers into something fleeting yet deeply felt — an intimacy that doesn’t announce itself, but lingers.

As with much of Andree’s work, the emotional weight lies in what’s just barely illuminated.

  • “What inspired me to contribute to this show was, in part, the belief that art has a role to play in the search for answers, even those that seem rooted in the language of science. My younger brother was diagnosed with a rare and severe form of autism before he turned two. His way of being in the world has shaped how I see it—more fractured, more impressionistic, more mysterious. My wife, too, has long volunteered with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and I’ve watched how her hours have been given not to abstraction but to action: phone calls, organizing, showing up.  In both cases—my brother’s condition, and my wife’s advocacy—there is a form of attention that resists ease or resolution. It is ongoing. I think that’s what art does, too. Not in opposition to science, but alongside it. It holds what can’t yet be solved.”
