Denise Duong

  • Denise Duong is a Vietnamese American artist from Oklahoma City, Ok. Her nomadic spirit, curiosity, art, and lust for adventure and exploration has landed her all over the world. After attending the School of the Arts Institute of Chicago, Duong went on to temporarily be a beach bum while learning capoeira and surfing in Hawaii along with an improv performance art at the Honolulu Museum of Art. She went on to create paintings, murals, drawings, sculpture and installations and having her first solo exhibitions in Oklahoma City and Park City, Utah circa 2005. Her works have been shown throughout the United States and have been featured from South Korea, Singapore, Southern India, Canada, and Colombia. She has had the privilege of meeting several of our country’s leaders along the way. In 2010 she painted a hope chest for President George H. W Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush for a group raising funds and awareness to childhood cancer research gala in Washington D.C. In May of 2024, she went on to celebrate AANHPI heritage month at the residence of Vice President and Democratic candidate for 47th President of the United States, Kamala Harris and First Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, where she created an art gallery of her work to be displayed. Duong also has a passion for transforming spaces into an interactive experience. She had the privilege to transform spaces at the Science Museum of Oklahoma, 21c Museum and Hotel, and JRB Art at the Elms to list a few. Along with creating solo work, she also collaborates with her life and art partner, Gabriel Friedman. They have sculptures that reside at Scissortail Park, Capitol Hill, and the Science Museum of Oklahoma. A truly special project dear to their hearts they collaborated on was an artist residency at the OU Children’s Hospital, in which they worked closely with many of the young patients and created a giant puzzle/mural. Duong currently resides in Oklahoma City with Gabriel and their 2 daughters, 2 cats, a fish, a puppy, and the ghosts of their lost dogs.
